Von Lahrheim Shorthairs was founded in 1950 by my grandparents, Howard and Amelia Lahr of Napa, California. Their journey began by chance when my grandfather found a lost female GSP — the daughter of America’s first Dual Champion, DC Rusty Vom Schwarenberg. From those early litters, their passion grew into a lifelong dedication to upland hunting, field trials, and helping establish the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of California. In the 1970s, Von Lahrheim produced dogs that excelled in both AKC Conformation and Field Competition, beginning with “Ziggy,” who became an AKC Champion and earned field trial placements. This sparked my grandparents’ vision to breed true dual-purpose German Shorthaired Pointers — dogs with both structure and ability. I grew up immersed in their world of puppies, training, and dog shows, and proudly carried on the Von Lahrheim name in 1995. My foundation bitch, “Brie,” set the course for the dogs I breed today: versatile, confident, and loving. Now, generations later, I am proud to produce GSPs that excel in the field, agility, and the show ring — but most importantly, are exceptional family companions.
