Meet The Breeder

Léo Washburn and Mark Thorson have been breeding Cardigans for fifteen years. We not only breed quality dogs concerning breed type but raise our puppies in our home and actively engage in enrichment activities that go beyond standard socialization. By the time puppies go to their new homes they have been introduced to leashes, crate training, and basic obedience. We are committed to being available to their puppy buyers throughout the puppies' lives, answering training questions, offering support for health concerns, and of course, celebrating successes. Health testing of parents includes annual eye exams, hip and elbow evaluations, and DNA testing. We reply to inquiries when we receive them but it isn't until we have confirmation of pregnancy we start engaging in more in-depth conversations with new homes. We try to get to know the person(s) in the home, their lifestyle, and interests, so we can make the best matches for our puppies. Our goal is to get both the individual puppy and its new people off to the best start possible! In addition to conformation, I (Léo) have been herding with our Cardigans for a few years. I'm still a novice but our dogs have a ton of natural talent so I've been able to put beginning level titles on them. If they were on more experienced handlers we have no doubt that they could get more advanced titles quickly. Our puppies also have an "off switch" and make wonderful companions in the home. We charge the same price for all our puppies, regardless of whether we deem them show or performance prospects or the most excellent couch warmers. The same love and care goes into them all while they are with us. In addition to the 15 years of developing our own line, I am involved with the parent club, our local breed club, and a local all-breed club. My volunteer work with the parent club includes working with the CWCCA Judges Education Committee as an artist, working with some of the most experienced and knowledgeable people in the breed. Cardigans are a challenging breed to breed well and a breeder never stops learning. I am very grateful for this ongoing educational opportunity. Send us an email at imleo9@gmail.com for more information.

Pricing Information

The total price listed includes a breeder deposit if applicable. DOGGIT will introduce the puppy buyer and the breeder to get to know each other. This means a puppy or future puppy from the breeder is reserved! Deposits are refundable if the breeder does not have a puppy for the puppy buyer, or has unreserved a puppy. The DOGG!T Matchmaker Service fees are also collected once a puppy is reserved. Matchmaker Service fees are transferable if the puppy buyer decides to go with another breeder. * We are committed to finding a puppy buyer the perfect breeder and puppy match.
