Chesapeake Bay Retriever

Height: 21-26 inches
Weight: 55-80 pounds
Much like a lab, this loyal, happy, and intellegent retriever is a classic sporting dog. The Chesapeake Bay Retriever is an accomplished gundog, with a famously waterproof coat that does require brushing often when shedding. Their affection, sensitivity and tenatacity are truly a one-of-a-kind dog. They tend to be thick headed and can do as they please, so training early and consitantly is important with a Chessie. They almost never tire and they make sure their human knows it! This powerful and sturdy built dog stands between 21 to 26 inches at the withers, boasts a thick and curly coat that come in brown, sedge, or deadgrass, and can wiegh up to 80 pounds. They feature striking yellow eyes. The Chessie makes a great guard dog for the home. Though even tempered and calm when meeting new people, they are not al that interested in new acquaintences. We would call them a 'one person dog' because they pick one member of the family as their human, and the others are accepted but irrelevant. They do require early socialization to keep them feeling friendly to strangers and regular excersize and training. This versitile breed is esspecially great for singles or families who regularly partake in outdoor activities like hunting, running, swimming or field work.
