Famously known for thier powerful nose, the Bloodhound is unmatched in ability to find by scent. They are the number one search and rescue breed for their strong scenting ability. This independant and curious breed is one of the most docile breeds in the dog kingdom. They are friendly, but can be stubborn! If a Bloodhound catches a curious scent, there is no going back! Bloodhounds stand between 23 to 27 inches at the withers and weigh upwards of 110 pounds. They are most identified by their huge, drooping ears, and warm, expressive eyes. They come in black and tan, liver and tan, or red. Their stamina and endurance is obvious in their powerful build. They love to be around other dogs, pets, and kids as an easy going personality and pack dog mantality is strong in this breed. As mentioned, their nose leads their life, so its of utmost imporatnace to have a Bloodhound in a controlled and/or fenced environment so they do not wander away. Long walks and new places to visit are helpful in 'working out' their nose regularly. Bloodhounds are known to be magnificant droolers, so having a drool rag around is genereally a good idea if youd like to keep things and yourself drool free. We especially like a Bloodhound for families and couples who can respect the will of a true scent hound trumps any obedience training!
