The ever loyal Akita is a burly and heavy boned breed. Their fierce and striking stature is both alarming and charming at the same time. Their courage is almost unmatched. Standing 24 to 28 inches tall at the withers. Akitas have a dense coat which requires regular brushing. They come in many colors which all create a distinguished and refined presence. Their broad head and curled tail is what makes them stand out from their smaller cousin, the Husky. They have ears which are always at attention with alert eyes and endless expressions. The Akita is what we call a 'one person dog' as they are extremely loyal to their favorite human, and could really care less about meeting new people. They prefer to be the only pet in the picture as well. Needless to say, regular and early socialization is a must. They are quiet, attentive, and very concerned about accuracy and detail. This independant thinker is a formittable guard dog, and will protect their family above all else. The Akita is reliant on their person being around them many hours of the day in order to feel like the most important thing in their persons life. We esspecially love the Akita for singles, or families who are home a lot and can socialize and excersize them regularly.
